I've had a li-ion battery on one of my Enfields for over a year without problems, although that one hasn't been ridden much. I believe that one has built in protection to prevent overcharging, although with a 60watt dynamo and having the lights on most of the time overcharging does seem unlikely. I've just fitted one to my later Bullet, It cost £31 so didn't seem particularly expensive, but it came with dire warnings about not letting it be connected to any charging voltage over 15 volts. So I can keep any eye on it I've fitted a cheap led voltmeter.

There seems to be an increase in the number of cars catching fire in recent times, with a whole car dealership going up in flames yesterday. Most attributable to electrical faults.
