Hi Guys------FELIX, you haven't told us what size carb this is.......Also exactly what bike model..Yes, it's a 2000 Bullet--but which one ??.....You say it's a 500 but your carb is flanged which normally is for a 350......Was the old Mikcarb flange mounted as well ?? I think some photos would help all concerned...

Yes, I'm aware that the carb change is separate from the idle issue. The 30mm carb was added as an improvement, which it certainly is. The PWK carb was supplied by JRC with an integral alloy flange, similar to the Amal. Here is pic of the same installation on the same bike, although I have a tea caddy. http://jrcengineering.com/product/jrc-32a/
I checked the advance without disturbing the contact breaker plate, and it seems to return firmly when the cam is turned and released. Same goes for the throttle, as the slide bottoms out with a clear "ching" sound.

I'll try a richer pilot. Eventually the cause will be the last thing I check.

The bike is a 2000 Indian export 500 4 speed with a LH shift :( It was imported to California by an Englishman from Hawaii when he sold his coffee plantation to retire here.

I just tried a 42 pilot jet and it idles a bit better but leaves the plug tip sootier. Still, it has more go than the Mikarb as far as I can tell. Here's a pic of the carb on my bike thanks to Imgbb and Alan.

Felix, just a small critical comment, you need to get those Jubilee clips strait, they are both crooked, that may mean leakage. (It could also in the long term with vibration cut the rubber.)

Back when I were mere slip 'o lad and designed--built and raced grass track bikes a longer induction tract would move the useable engine's torque to the lower end of the rev. range, ideal for that type of racing....I'm just wondering if bolting your cab direct onto the head like that has had any detrimental effects for the 500 ??..Mind you. with these Enfields these very little "Power" to worry about anyway --LoL !!

Well-spotted Papasmurf...If the Mikcarb was mounted in the standard position ie}---- Carb / rubber hose / Engine Cyl. Head, then the hose may well have a small split etc. which would have given that hunting mentioned.....But not as shown in front of the carb.....Perhaps there are two, separate issues that give the same result ?.........Just thinking out loud at this point... Well done FELIX for mastering the "dark-art" of uploading images ---Easy wasn't it ??.......If only others would do the same, eh ???

papasmurf,
The J clips are square over the spigots but the hose is slightly curving to suit the two spigots. The connector is a "Fernco" plumbing joint for ABS drainpipe. I may add a phenolic or finned alloy spacer to the carb later. This bike replaces 2 tuned Ducatis and a K75S, so the lack of power is profound! I wanted back to basics and I got it. I want to convert the gearbox to not just improve shifting but the rear braking, too.

Hello again FELIX---------- I spotted that Stucco Patch on your shelves so I guess you really ARE in the USA !! ( I don't think we have that over here..).....I also have one of those SIEG-based mini-lathes and have found there are LOTS of support forums, shops etc. so that you can do all sorts of up-grades to them.......In the UK I use these people and have already fitted their larger capacity headstock mainshaft ---> http://www.amadeal.co.uk/acatalog/4__Sp ... ries_.html

These people do a very useful improved handwheel set---> http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue ... ini-Lathes
