It's not what it does, it's the way it does it.

Mine hits the revlimiter in top at a GPS timed 82mph (rural 2 lane road IOM)

For anyone not with an EFI that's not fulfilling its marketed potential, could I humbly suggest you check your TPS setting is or at least set to 0.610 Volts (Keihin default setting for bikes with electronic TPS reset function) and you increase your tickover via the air bypass screw to the maximum idle speed of 1250rpm.

Hi all, my post wasn't really about the merits or otherwise of going fast on an enfield compared to other "quicker" bikes. I could do 140 on my R1100RT in comfort without thinking about it. I was just surprised that they advertised such a high top speed for the C5. Bland bikes will generally outperform bikes with character but who wants one. Ask any Harley rider why they bought theirs, it won't be for its handling or top speed.

140mph on a BMW1100RT without thinking about it? Are you sure? You must be some kind of superhero. One of the bikes I loved best was an 1100RS.!I doubt that would do a genuine 140mph and if it did I'd be paying one hell of a lot of attention...

140 !!! You'll need the big boy's 1150 for that, not some piddly little 1100 variant.

Oh wait my 1150 didn't do that either.

Back on subject... AndyMc did you adjust or at least manage to ascertain your factory-set TPS value?

Mine perked up when increased to 0.61volts and as much again after other simple adjustments posted elsewhere.

So an engine developed in the 21st century and electronically controlled to boot is not modern?
Mmmmm.....

I'm unsure of how to check or adjust the TPS value, Could that be causing my flat spot with a barely open throtle?
My R1100RT did 140 regularly on the M57 (on the speedo) all be it with the screen down but no wobbles and i felt in control. I later decided it wasn't worth getting a ban or dieing, and i grew up a bit

Fastest I've gone is 65mph. I never really understood spending thousands of pounds on improving performance on a RE when you can spend £1500 and go and buy a cheap twin cylinder jap bike that can go 100 with ease
