My Avons got old and hard and scary before I wore them out. K70 Dunlops seem a better profile and look the part and seem to stick like excrement to the angora. My Duc has Bridgestone Battleaxes which are also good and dual compound which makes the last better. My feeling is that fast wearing is better than long lasting.

Avon road riders all the way, it's the only choice (sorry for being so narrow minded but they are the best) that's why all of the classic racers use them.

Just enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the constructive comments. The question of my sanity is is not really a question at all. I mean come on! I'm a bullet rider! I'm not even half crazy as in having a bullet for my mental days and a "competent sports" bike for my I'm normal days. I'm fully, certifiably mental! And I make no apologies for that. Here's a question though. If I'm so barking why do apparently sane people spend quite a lot of money tuning their bullets and transforming them into cafe racers? Is it so they can sit and polish them and not push it to hard because they might scuff their centre stand. Why don't they just buy "competent sports" bikes? Cafe racer? Now why would they call them that? Is it because after one of Dave's bacon sarni's in the cafe they race to the nearest kazi? Just because I like to ride my silly old bike in my own silly way some other "reasonably competent sports bike pilots" seem to think they know what is reasonable and what is beyond the realms of acceptability and not only that but they can't keep their frankly boring opinions to themselves but have to pick up on the idle revery of others who's creativity and imagination far outstrips theirs. And they wander off topic! C'est la vie! I shall. No doubt get my comeuppance and the naysayers and "reasonably competent sports bike pilots " can laugh all the way to the undertakers. And another thing.............

I thrash my bitza (within the limits imposed by my innate cowardice) and love the fact that as a pile of old parts it is pretty much valueless except to someone like me. If I blow it up by riding it hard the cost of repair is relatively reasonable and it also gives me an opportunity to experiment with a latest theory. My current plan is to ride it until I have the spare spon to buy an aluminum barrel which I believe will allow me to maintain higher speeds for longer periods. So go for it Thrasher and more power to you.
