I have the air filter cover fitted. I thinking of draining out the fuel tank as the fuel cap and tank surround looks like its been flaking paint. How do I drain the tank as its got the fuel pump attached I assume ? Do I have to run the bike electrically to activate the fuel pump to drain the tank ?. Many thanks to everyone for all the techie advice, its greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that Andy. I have checked and I have the cover on my 2016 B5 but I sold a 2011 C5 to Chris from Manchester (don't know if he's on here) and i now that didn't have one. It does explain some of the fuelling problems I had on that bike.

Personally I wouldn't use the pump to empty the tank; I'd siphon most of the fuel out then remove the pump plate. Despite the manual suggesting the need for a new sealing ring on the plate, I found when I replaced the plate with the Hitchcocks carb one that the original was fine for reuse. A potential problem of draining the tank via the pump is that when the fuel level gets low the pump gets less lubrication from the fuel. The pumps are pretty expensive. In any event if the reason for draining the tank in the first place is to remove bits of paint I'd remove the pump and check/clean its filter anyway.
