I think most of us fit the one Jefrs has because it's better value than the stainless one. Also, IMHO as the chrome one is easy enough to clean a stainless pipe is hardly warranted, unlike on most modern bikes where the exhaust has all sorts of nooks and crannies that would soon rust out. Just my opinion.

At one point I did find out from Hitchcocks who made their exhausts to order, and they are made to order, because I needed a downpipe with a larger 'bung' for a wide-band O2 sensor. That company couldn't help and I've lost the note now but they are a 'well known' maker of exhausts, so I would not be surprised if the stainless and chrome bottles come from the same place.

The second downpipe I had (for the wide bung) was a slightly different shape to the first one. It refused to fit the same way but eventually I got it to fit better than the first. There is some variation between individual pipes and batches, they're made by hand.

The chrome pipe will be lighter than the stainless steel because steel is lighter than stainless, steel is easier to form. The chrome is good english chrome; stainless is not quite but almost a completely different colour. Chrome matches the bike, stainless does not.

If you want to know the exact differences between silencers stainless 91087 and the chrome 91080 (which matches chrome downpipe 91085) do ask Hitchcocks, even if you have to email due to time differences, because they are really very helpful.
