Another for the washer under the jet - been there - done that.

Indeed, I had lost the washer which goes on the main jet. I replaced it with a small fibre washer from my plumbing kit, trimmed to size(ish). Carb back on bike together with known good spark plug and after much kicking, huffing and puffing including one loud backfire, I got it started. Only problem was, the engine revved excessively and carried on doing so after I turned the ignition off, despite having checked the slide was operating correctly. In blind panic I turned the petrol off and waited for the engine to stop. In hindsight I should have used the decompressor, I know. Reluctant to re-start it until I can get more answers. I'm beginning to think the Mikcarb should be re-named the macabre. However , progress is being made, thanks entirely to you knowledgeable chaps. As I said earlier, the bike ran faultlessly until I decided to "fix" a niggly fault.

Try to find the washer if you can Reg, its a specific thickness in brass so that the jet sits at the correct level to the fuel..

Washer too thin raises jet and leans mixture down to nothing..

Also just check the throttle stop screw is not set too high or the motor will rev without control..

Thanks Gwilly, not much chance of finding the washer. I'll have to order one from Mr. H. Presumably it allows the main jet to sit exactly below the needle jet casing. (If you see what I mean). Throttle stop screw was backed way out, not contacting the slide. Do you think too weak a mixture caused by too thin a washer would explain the uncontrolable revving?

New brass washer fitted twixt needle and main jet and bike fired up and ran perfectly. Excess revving was my fault, I'd managed to snag the throttle cable under the tank when I re-fitted the carb.(More haste,less speed.) Just returned from a test ride with a HUGE smile on my face. Bike even starts easily when warm, so original problem must have been blockage somewhere in carb. I'm exstatic that my Bullet is running again. I thought I'd properly screwed things up this time.
