Thanks for the replies, I'll be happy with 80mpg retaining the kit, so can anyone point me at the default settings/values as the kit was supplied for the main jet/needle jet/needle position/slide number? Last owner was a tinkerer so I'd like to start from a known base line.

[edit] I'm hoping I'll be lucky and it's just an incorrect float height adjustment :-)

Not sure yet, will be examining at the weekend, checking the float height and doing a plug chop or three. Weather permitting.

I'm only just getting over 90 out of my EFI and that figure's from Fuelly.com where I've logged all mileage from day one.

I have found that just leaving the factory settings alone, the Bullet gives satisfactory economy and performance. If I wanted more fuel economy I would have bought a scooter. As someone once said, if you have to worry about running costs, you obviously can`t afford it. Or as the Rolls Royce salesman said, if you have to know the price, you can`t afford it.

If you leave the factory settings alone, you've got a machine that's been hampered by emissions bureaucracy, and if I wanted that bland vanilla experience I would have kept my CB500. I don't worry about running costs, I just don't like waste.

I'm not sure how hampered it really is. I've ridden an 'unrestricted' one directly after riding my standard one and I struggled to see any difference beyond possible imagination. A dyno test of both would perhaps prove me wrong but if it needs that sort of proof to me it's not worth the hassle of chasing. The two biggest gains to me were the iridium plug and premium fuel, both of which produced a smoother performance and necessitated turning the tickover down as it was far to high after the change.

In case someone else finds this thread in a search, I've had a reply from our hosts; the default starting point of the 32MM Amal Mk1 Concentric (90005) supplied with the Electra X Stage 1 kit is :-

220 main jet

107 needle jet

3 slide

Sometimes economy is important. For me it's the difference between knowing I can ride go out for a 250 mile jolly and not stopping unless I want to stop.

For everything else there's my other bike :)
