Was going to replace the main shaft but I've been sent a short one. I'll put it all back together for the moment and come back to it. There's a few other bits and pieces that could be sorted out in there. My remaining question would be what torque should be on the big nut holding on the output sproket (going to the back wheel). When I pulled it to pieces that was finger tight :-( I'm sure that can't be right, can it?


Another question why there's a bit of gear oil between the two plates of the gear box. There is a sealed bearing on main shaft, I must have replaced it ages ago. I never did the primary case side though so that'll have to go on the list. But given that there's a sealed bearing why is there a leak? Hmmmm.

It may also be primary oil which will make its way along the clutch pushrod.. Not much but over a period of time can accumulate along with the water you always find..

Mine had a tinge of red which proves it to be ATF rather than gear oil..
