Papasmurf, there is a brass washer type connector on each end. One with a 6mm washer and the other with a 8mm washer.

That probable means it connects to the negative terminal of the battery, (assuming it is a negative earth system.)

So that means you have a loose wire. Does it actually belong with your bike or is it something that strayed?
What makes you think that it is an earth/ground wire?
At 300mm or in English money 12 inches it is too long to be a battery to earth/ground wire.

According to the wiring diagram there is a 2nd black wire going to battery negative on Export electric start models as well as a thick one from the battery to earth and seems to feed the rear and front trafficators. To dark at the moment let me know if you cant sort it and I will have a look on my 65 to see if I can see where it goes!

Thankyou Mr Grumpy! For the time being I've bolted it to the rectifier and the earthing point on the back of the battery carrier. The wire is actually a double wire that also runs into the wiring harness - so it possibly carries earth to something up at the front end (ammeter or ignition swith perhaps).

Careful what you say Tim I got taken to task when I tongue in cheek said the wiring was there to protect that 20 amp fuse!!
