Rain water is pure, providing it has not come in contact with an iron roof or guttering. I leave a china bowl out in the yard when it rains.

I remember heading off from Minehead to Taunton on my AJS 350 back in the 80's. I just got to the outskirts of Taunton when I felt a slight prickling in a private spot. I looked down to see that my wedding tackle was displayed for the world to see on the seat of the bike. Apparently the bloody six volt battery that I had topped up before I left had squirted sufficient acid onto my cotton trousers to turned them to dust in the crotch area. Needless to,say I abandoned my trip to town and headed home for a vital,shower and replacement drawers.
