Lessus, do not fiddle. Be methodical. If as Alan says you have direct lighting (in the 21st century????) then start your engine and check if the lights work first.

If they do not work then approach the problem in a systematic way as I described earlier in order to find the point of continuity failure. Fiddling and/or twiddling may actually solve the problem, BUT you may not find out the cause and it will reoccur.

Remember electricity is like water flowing through a pipe. Your pour the electricity into the wire at the battery and, hopefully, it will come out of the wire at the other end..........well that's the theory anyway.

Good luck and please let us all know how you get on.

Hello MadMike !! ------- Thanks for that supportive input. It's all too easy for us more experienced types to forget that the majority of riders may not have any engineering / electrical skills at all. Plus--in todays world it's all about that "Quick-fix" or "one-shot" cure-all answer at the press of a button. Yes, both my previous Bullet Sixty-Five and now my 2005 Classic 500 have direct A/C lighting at the Headlamp and tail lamp. Conversly the headlamp flasher is from the battery ie Works without the eng. running and is at full brilliance at all times. ------  Don't you just LOVE these little darlings ??-----At least they are now a 12v system. Lessus---keep at it old son . Between us we'll get your lights sorted. Best regards----

Hi,

The bulb has blown, the previous repair place put a 6v one in. New one ordered. Would the be an in line fuse that this could affect anywhere?.

On a 97 Model?

I would Guess you Only Have One Fuse?

Next To Battery (Home Mkt) or L/H Tool Box (Export) or a Possibble Number of Others But Try Them 1st,

A 6v Bulb Should Not have done any Harm though, just Check you dont Un Clip Owt' with the Head Lamp off...

( I Take it your selling This one on Flea Bay or will you Keep it Now' its running Ok?)

 Cheers Craig

Hello Craig & Lassus,-----HOO--RAY !!!!!!!, Job almost done but }------ I would have ordered 2 bulbs ie 1 for use now, 1 for your bikes tool kit, plus a spare stop / tail one as well.  Also, consider fitting a mini-blade fuse and holder. They are very rugged plus these fuse types are available evertywhere, including in your mates car !! See Hitchcocks item No. }----92249. All my classics have modern electrics, modern tyres , modern brake compounds. Plus Hagon springing. Makes for a relaxed days riding and NOT doing the 1950's "bloke at the roadside " re-enactment. And finally------MadMike, this water up your electric pipe thingy---must get an awful lot of short-circuits with that ?? LoL :) Ho-ho.

MadMike.

They do indeed have direct lighting. This caught me out too at my MOT. It also caught out the tester but being a good sort, he gave me 5 minutes to go round with a roll of tape and tape over all the lights for a pass with daylight only use advisory.

We both felt like a pair of idiots when I started the bike to leave and the headlight came on.

It is a 12V, electronically regulated AC lighting circuit though, not like the old 6v systems with 25w bulbs and ballast resistors you got on japanese mopeds. These run a standard 55w H4 bulb and run it as brightly as any other bike I've seen. Certainly bright enough to dazzle oncoming traffic if you forget to dip them.

Hello,

Indeedy it is the very one on Ebay.

However I am very minded to keep it myself and see it through and use it...once its gone..its gone.

Whats the point of getting rid, to either buy another one at a higher price or something more `modern` (which would be re-sold within a month!).

Modern Bikes are like Modern Cars.overpriced rubbish, all the same, no honour or history..just not so cheap tat to keep simpletons happy.

I`ve had a couple (ish) of cans of Tesco`s finest.

But I`m on holiday.

Hi there Stinkwheel---is that a 2-stoke bloke here in 4-stroke heaven , me-thinks ??? Nice one son-Ho-ho indeed. You don't half feel a right dipstick--don't you ?? My mate naturally didn't tell the whole local club about my episode (mentioned earlier above) now , did he ?? Not half.  Not just the Jap mopeds though---- the early Honda CB125 and the 6v 200's had the same direct system also. With the Bullet, as you say an H4 halogen is very much noticable on the move, but when at night and stationary under sodium lighting it's as if your lights have gone out----- there's virtually nothing there. (the bike I mean---not me!! ). They can be re-wired to perform in the "normal " manner if you want to though. Lessus----just because it's a new bulb do test it first before  final fitting. I keep a spare set of bulb holders wired to mini battery clamps just for this reason. Saves pulling out your hair later , that's all.

Hey Lessus---- now you're  sounding just like one of the guys. That bit about Tesco's finest did it. Yeah---don't sell it !!-- after all your endevours ??--- keep the old girl ( and the bike, of course !). Join a local RE Owners Branch and, like Lou Reed----- Take a walk on the WILD side, sugar !!----sorry, I forgot, you may have to Google  "Lou Reed" and you-tube for the song. Enjoy ! Meanwhile -----i'm on the ceiling----yeah !!!!

Are You Implying they did Not Let you Start It? or It Did Not work..

My 98 home Mkt has Direct Power Indictaors And its Never Been a Problem at any MOT ,they Let Me Start it, do all Lights with Engine Running...Then I leave em to it?

Just a Though (or Find a Old Style M.O.T er)

Cheers all..Craig
