Norm - "clutch rubbers have gone hard and shrunk, not sure if you can get replacement ones" -

200400A - (set of six) available from our hosts ?

"rotor exploded and took out pretty much everything on the primary side" - you replaced it with a "welded" rotor? or.....Could the noise be an early warning sign of an action replay ?

Thanks John, I don't think they are the clutch rubbers for a CX500 as Papasmurf needs, the rotor is not an Indian one, no way he would ever use an Indian one again, from memory it is a Wassel and the magnets are assembled inside a cage so they can't throw themselves apart

Norm, I was referring to the general mechanical noise from the CX500 engine, it has been the same for the last well over 20 years, and has been over to Europe and toured Ireland, the only major failure was the swinging arm rotted out big time, and I had to do a major repair on it using 1/8th in wall thickness tube and 1/8th plate. (It has a side car fitted so weight was not an issue.)

Sealed bearings in the gearbox: Check primary chain/sprocket alignment.
If the oil-slinger washers are missing/incorrectly positioned the main shaft will be incorrectly spaced out...

All fixed Tim, combination of several things causing several things to drive me nuts for a couple of days. This bike does a lot of miles and many things are getting pretty worn. I knew before this started that it had a broken vane in the rear hub so that had to be replaced, and this bike is being ridden to Hutt and back in April and the last time he rode there about 4 years ago it was an 8000ks round trip

Different Hutt Simon, they are going to visit Prince Leonard of Hutt in Western Australia Hutt is a Principality in the middle of WA. Prince Leonard is the Patron of the Royal Enfield Club of Australia. He formed the Principality must be 40 years ago by declaring war on Australia at 5.00pm on a Friday night and I think it was a long weekend so by Tuesday morning he declared himself the winner just as the government boffins were getting to their offices to check their fax machines, but too late, there was some loophole he was able to exploit and he got away with it and 40 years later there is still nothing they can do about it

The story about the Province of Hutt River is fascinating. I've just been reading about it on Wikipedia.
