Thanks for all your advice guys. I guess its a process of elimination. I have already replaced the plug with a new NGK one, unfortunately this did not resolve the problem. Next I will change the battery (old one is Jan 2013 which not very old )but as its quick and easy to do its worth it. Does a new plug cap just push fit onto the HTlead or does it need crimping etc.
Your advice is much appreciated, once problem is resolved I will post a response for anyone else with similar problem.

A new NGK plug cap will screw on to the freshly cut end of the HT lead. You need to cut the end of the lead nice and square to make a good clean joint. In the box with the cap there will be a rubber boot to protect the HT end of the lead and the plug to cap joint, don't forget to fit these too! REgards, Mark

Hi Norm: My CBE batteries all lasted over 5-years, same with Iridium spark plugs, are you sure you haven`t had a spell put on your bikes by some itinerant Gypsies?

Leon, funny you should mention that, I pulled the battery out of my CB on Friday it had been showing signs that it wasn't happy if I left it for a couple of weeks and guess what it is a wet battery CBE and just over 5 years old, so it can be done. A couple of months ago I got rid of my scrap batteries, 17 motorcycle batteries over the last probably 3 years. Big Honda will be getting a Motorbatt this time though

When my Electra suffered poor cold starting symptoms, it was the ignition switch failing. It failed terminally shortly afterwards, but a replacement cured the problem. Has anyone used a non Enfield replacement switch, as I fear that the same symptoms are back.

Stick a NGK iridium plug in,thats if you can get a iridium for that model, I am sure you can, it should then start first time everytime.
