Yes, Simon. It was known as a Rootes Blower and it provided the exhaust scavenging that two strokes need as there was insufficient (or no) crankcase compression to purge the exhaust gasses. Adam

Poor centre stand design is not just a problem from back in the day, or for that matter the Enfield R&D boys. I have a 2008 Honda Varadero with a factory-fit centre stand bought as an "extra" at a cost in excess of £100. Same problem, the bike has to be lifted onto the stand and requires a super human effort and the addition of a home made "lifting handle". On the other hand my brothers BMW RT simply rolls unto its stand with so little effort anyone could use it.
I resent having to redesign and re-manufacture this bloody stand but being a gentleman of a certain age I will have to do so before I do myself and/or the bike some serious damage!
