Sounds like tyre creep. I guess "tubed" tyres are a bit slacker on rim than tubeless types, which may not help. I am also a bit suspicious of the anonymous pot of lubricant often generously used at tyre outlets, does it set as a mild adhesive once dry, or can it remain/return to a lubricant under certain conditions? Certainly something soap based could act that way. Rim bolt tyre clamps must be way to go.

Hi NORM--- first my best wishes and speedy recovery to your Club President there---- Back in the day when I was Grass-tracking on BSA C15s' (on Methanol) and later with JAP and JAWA 500cc machines, both our front AND rear wheels would have security bolts fitted as a matter of course----one in the front and 3 in the rear ( 4.00 x 18 on a WM3 )PLUS the valve security nut fitted but left loose. As LES H found out the hard way that extra look for a trapped tube is worth it's weight in ---------- NERVES !! Given the type of machine that the tyres have failed on the suspicion seems to be tyre creep under torque/loading. Do you know what tyre/rim combination thy are using ?? I had a quick look at the Carberry Vid but can't see any info on tyre/wheel specs. Hopefully not the original Bullet spec. wheels ------------------nah ! they wouldn't do that ?? Tyre soap has been in the trade for EONS--- used properly it's not a contender in this case in my book. NOW !!!------------- having said all that, I____WANT______ONE______AS______WELL____!!!!!!!!!!! NORM---- yesterday collected my second 4-speeder from Farnborough, Hants. and rode it the 150 miles back to Telford with just about 1/8" drop of oil on the dipper-sticker.So now have 2 and sold the Japs.

Alan,
No you can't have a Carberry, in fact nobody can, if you don't have one already. I spent all day Friday at the factory doing maintenance on our visitor, Harry Lyon-Smith's the Vegi bike man's diesel and there is two Carberrys there( sorry both belong to people) and there is no more being built or even a maybe
