Simon, I would really love to see the speedo on my Inter read 80 mph just once, once would be good enough for me lol

Surely the Interceptor is a hundred mile an hour motorcycle Norm. I had an indicated ton or actually 160kms out of my Benelli 650. The Continental is bigger and has similar BHP. I'm amazed that you can't get over 80mph. I'll admit that there is a mountain of BS talked about motorcycle performance particularly when the figures get up above the 120mph range as the leap in horse power for those last mph is colossal. I've no reason to doubt the claims here but the factory claimed were often clearly bollocks and simply theoretical speeds based on gearing and maximum rpm with no reference to wind or drag or any of the other numerous factors that kick in at high speed. That said 700 odd cc should let you cruise at 80 mph get you 90 mph with ease and a ton in a while.

Hi Tom. Out of interest, you've not mentioned what was used to verify what the speedo was reading. It may indicate 130 on your mate's A65, but how has this been checked?

Best way to verify a speedometer’s accuracy is to select a straight bit of road in, say, a 60 mph zone with a speed camera, and go past the camera with your needle spot on 80 mph. When you get the summons……..

Another Alan.

The Official timed figures for Marks BSA A 65 Special will be published once he's completed his flying sprint at the Isle of Man.

The bike as it stands sees off Hinckley Bonnevilles with ease.. Power to weight ratio being one of the key reasons.

It left my tuned Hinckley behind and his second bike is a new Daytona 900 and just riding the 2 the A65 is quicker... Marks other bike is a genuine 105MPH 1963 A10.

I assume that you've never been to a classic race meet by the way your posts read.. I suggest you watch the Henshaws with their 350 if you want to see a 90MPH+ wee Bullet..

Norm.. I would assume that if your Inter is only pulling 80MPH there is something very wrong with it!.

Maybe you have it geared to pull a chair!

"I assume that you've never been to a classic race meet by the way your posts read"........A bit more groundless speculation??????

The "accuracy" of the Smith's speedo was checked alongside a couple of other vehicles BMW / AUDI at given speeds 60/70/80/90/100/110/120/130. Mainly at night>>>> Given that most speedos read fast anyway allowance was made for a misread of 10% over the range of speeds and was checked against 3 other speedos ...
As I said the official IoM timed figures will be put up here as soon as we have them. For all you pessimists..

Just to reiterate we are not talking about a standard machine with a wafty speedo!
This is a road race built special

Tom as I stated it has a 29 tooth engine sprocket (standard Interceptor) and a 21 tooth gearbox sprocket and I ride it fairly regularly, in fact I will ride it to tomorrow nights meeting, 60mph down the freeway is fine but as for a superbike to go up against the first Honda 4's somebody was smoking dope. Mine is bog stock apart from the single seat and chopped rear guard and I have no desire to up its performance, it is what it is and I enjoy riding it as it is but 120mph????
