Dennis C Subject: 12 volt conversion.
The old adage applies, "if it aint broke don't fix it".
It is broke. I need to buy a battery, back plate, points and condenser. As far as I can tell, if I buy electronic ignition and a 12v battery it doesn't work out that much more expensive plus I have regulators/rectifiers left over from other 'toys' that can be used. I only want her to be reliable not pristine, I like the patina. My other hack has had plenty of time and money thrown at it, super reliable and I ride it every day although you'd never believe it if you saw it.

I like the bike, don't put any shiny stuff on it, it looks like a proper 1950's bike as it stands, especially with the half width hubs. Back to the electrical theme, I have fitted the rectifier/regulator, capacitor and ignition unit within the left hand tool box on mine which helps to keep the period look.

I took the decision to keep my old Triumph 6v just to keep it as original as possible. Conversion to 12v is pretty simple but for me there was no advantages as I only very rarely ride in the dark so any percieved lighting issue is not really relevant to me. Our host stocks a range of 6v bulbs including 6v halogen headlight bulbs.

I love how it looks, that's why I bought it. I intend to do as little as possible to it. I'll let you know how it progresses once I've got it running. I don't intend it ride it at night either but I'd hate to get caught out, I don't usually ride faster than I can see anyway. That's the trouble with modern lighting, some clowns think they can see around corners.

Hi guys---------I ride with dipped headlights on AT ALL TIMES, and will have all my bikes fitted with electronic ignition and a Power Box in due coarse....12volt is worth doing ......I also wear an open face rather than Puddin-basin helmet and a high vis vest..............The reason ??.......it's a MODERN world out there full of people who have quote}--- "Passed their driving test" but have no empathy with us bikers at all........Keep you and your bike Bright and visible.. Don't give them the opportunity to use the SMIDSY excuse !!
