Alan R - It's Cnut (usually misspelt as Canute). Alan (from Lancashire) - We have a Powerbox in the loom, but simply did away with the battery when we lost all of the real estate that it lived in (change to 5 speed gearbox). In motion, and starting from warm, it all works fine but its just very marginal from cold.

ok , I did not see you mention a boyer black box , I would be tempted to add an additional capacitor (as above) and to start spinning the engine over a couple of times to charge the boyer/and additional capacitor with the decomp pulled in

Had me confused as well Alan R as Cnut was an eleventh century Danish King.

Indeed, and 11th century Danish king, Hobb. Alan: I did consider fitting an additional capacitor but - being a bear of very little brain - I was sure how to wire it, in concert with my Power box. Any pointers?

a capacitor is just like a battery , wire it across the output from the reg/rect, as they loose charge quickly , you will have to "prime" it by swinging the engine over (with decomp) a couple of times
