I don't understand why neither of your hatchbacks with the engine running will not jump start your people carrier using jump leads. Try a dose of charging, if that doesn't work simply buy another battery. I have never understood why people waste so much time pissing about with old knackered batteries, on bikes and cars, when a new one solves the problem and gives many years peace of mind.

Mike, you still don't get it, we have Enfields and that involves pissing around all the time

Speak for yourself Norm
I do well thought-through improvements and subtle adjustments.

If something is knackered it is knackered, particularly something like a battery, and no amount of pissing about will change it.

Beezabryan; you are most probably right. In this case, the car in question is old, dented up, has very worrying noises coming from around one of the front driveshafts, bearings if I am lucky UJ if not. The tailpipe of the exhaust has come off; this is a Toyota Lite Ace Fieldtourer Noah.It was never one of Toyota's best efforts, in fact it is difficult to see why they built it when they had the Previa and the Lucida. There were not many in Japan; very few in the UK and only this one in Guernsey.Shelves are not sagging with parts for them. Now you are saying "This chap doesn't even need a new battery, he needs a new car", and you are right.
But have you never squeezed the last half inch of toothpaste from the tube before chucking it away and starting the new one?

Sounds like you've gone beyond sqeezing the the last half inch out the toothpaste, more like cut it open to get the scraping off the inside ;)
