Nipple came off the grip end of the throttle cable.
Two tie wraps to secure outer to handlebars - mole grips on end of cable taped on to twistgrip. Worked a treat!

Oh and Jonesy,
PLEASE DON'T SHOUT
Just a bit of on line etiquette, and if you shout all the time we won't know when you're SHOUTING ;-)

I have two to add to the list. The first was a leaking petrol tap, which I knew about and had a spare in the shed. I ran out of fuel coming back from a branch meeting 3 miles from home, late one night. The exercise did me some good although I dropped the bike trying to free wheel and destroyed my crash helmet tied to the rear mudguard. The second was a clutch nipple coming off as I coasted to a roundabout on a hill.

Stupidity was the cause.. Taking a hump back bridge at 60mph as i did many times at 16 on a BSA..

Flew ok but the landing was a little heavy.. Broke the rear chain guard bracket and finished with the guard pointing vertical.. oops..

Once the throttle slide or cable stuck and in the resultant panic to shut the throttle the slack in the cable allowed that little brass ferrule or spacer to drop out from the twist grip..

Thats when those cable ties and insulation tape comes in handy… gwilly

My last breakdown was about 10 minutes ago. Riding back from the train station on a debris and water sodden back road and hit a large puddle really hard. My own fault. Waited a while but could not get her restarted. Of course once I had phoned the wife up for a lift home the bullet fired up straight away. I think I will crack open the silicone spray this weekend.

Last breakdown about 25 years ago on an ever so slightly ;) tuned 900ss Ducati, I gave her a big handful of oversized Delortos and dumped the clutch during a traffic light grand prix and sheared the bolts that held the rear sprocket to the rear wheel hub. A standard mod that everyone did on 860/900 Dukes was to replace the factory fitted bolts with larger diameter ones and with an extra one added too and I just had n't got around to it. Fortunately no real damage was done and next day I drilled and threaded the hub and fitted new bolts. This is probably not a major cause of Enfield breakdown I'm thinking...

Broken clutch cable. Replaced with the spare provided with the bike lashed up around the outside of the petrol tank. Good enough to get me home.
