Adam - firstly many congratulations on your recent happy event (no, I'm not being sarcastic!).
When it was our big day we hired a '66 Bonnie and it was my first experience of a right-hand gear change so that took a lot of anxiety of getting hitched away and focused on riding this lovely machine. That was before my Enfield 'adventures' 'began... can you get away without a lever and cable - i mean is it a decompressor or valve lifter set up you got? I and soome other on this forum just press down on the decompressor - you get used to the heat if the bike is already warmed up.
