Hi Wynonie! Ha- you regularly come to Consett, well that is great. The Electra X I own has been my only means of transportation for the last 5 years, and I have used in in all weathers to get me to and from work, and it sure looks it after 25000 miles! I would be able to fill you in on any maintenance issues, which should be fairly similar for all models, and you can take it out for a spin and discover how 'loose' one of these bikes feels after this amount of heavy duty use. I shall phone you shortly.

Welcome to the forum!
As you've probably guessed, I also live a stone's throw from you too...darkest Sacriston, to be precise!!

I ride a 350 classic with some of the usual mods already referred to earlier - Amal carb, de-restricted silencer etc., etc. I've also had a 500 Classic in the past with the same mods, but to be honest, prefer the 350 as it's less vibey and some would argue, a "sweeter" engine. My own opinion is that the two bikes in standard guise aren't a million miles apart when it comes to performance, except for the fact that the 500 gives a bit more scope for additional performance mods.
I can't comment on the newer models such as the Electra and EFI, but I'm sure owners of these models prefer these instead! That's what's special about our great brand, and this forum...you'll often get different and wide-ranging opinions.
