      2 problems here solonoid sounds like it has failed and the neutral switches can be dodgy as well. Get apiece of wire with an aligator type clamp and clip it ont the neutral light switch on the lower rear of the gearbox and with the ignition turned on conect the other end of the piece of wire to the frame somewhere and the neutral light should come on. Then see if the solonoid will click be pressing the starter button.This will only test the circuit, not fix the solonoid but at least it eliminates one of the problems. Doesn't fix it either but tells you where the problem is

I would do as Norm says and check the neutral switch or as he suggests,  isolate it and see if the solenoid clicks and whether you can start it with the neutral switch isolated. How about wiring the the solenoid direct to battery -the blue/white wire to pos and black to neg to see if that makes it work? Just a thought, trying both will eliminate anything else. All the best Pete
