WD40 is a penetrating oil, viscous oil.I use it to prevent rust which is common on enfields.

Zippy,
I used WD40 on my Inter gauges when I had the glass off, wiped the grey face with it and it restored the colour back to original made them look new again and has been that way for a few years now

Taken from wikipedia re WD 40.

NORM LARSEN sold WD-40 and Rocket Chemical in the early-fifties for a mere $20,000 (no royalties, no residuals, as he believed he would always be able to invent something better), to Sam Crivello, Gene DeFalco, and two others................oh bollocks.

Wouldn't you be able to do this in situ,by removing the tyre and tube then replacing it and spin it from there on the forks?jack.

WD40 is wonderful stuff for what it's designed for - displacing moisture......
It's next to useless as a penetrating oil, and not very much better at lubricating......
Just my 2p's worth..................

Hi guys----------- JACK, it's actually better to balance the WHOLE tyre, wheel assembly as a complete unit just after a new tyre has done its' initial 100 miles or so of "scrubbing-in"... Just a point of note}---- if you do your own tyre changes, most manufacturers will have pre-balanced a new tyre with a coloured dot of some description (red or yellow seems favourite)---- this will indicate the LIGHTEST POINT and should be placed alongside the valve...Have a good look at this Dunlop Fact Sheet }--- http://www.dunlop.eu/dunlop_euen/mc/tyres/tyre_care.jsp --------------------
