Hi guys----------- yes, brazing (Bronze welding---NOT silver soldering ) will be ok for the exhaust port area....It needs an Oxy-Acetylene torch to do it, which has a temp. way above that of any exhaust gasses---

I would use an iridium spark plug. Denso as a first choice, NGK otherwise. The benefits are well known, and "especially" with a magneto ignition, you will/should notice improved starting, idle quality (strong smooth consistant with no misses at all) and crisp throttle response vs. a standard design plug. I would suggest reading about iridium plugs from knowledgeable sources that explain what it is, how it works and why they are best.

Humph I risk inflaming a row, here but there is no problem starting a bike with a mag, especially a bullet( one of the best starting Brit singles ever in my experience) iridium plugs are a needless expense IMHO much like getting tyres filled with nitrogen. With modern unleaded fuel a spark plug in a well maintained engine will last for years (7 so far in the old Bullet). I can see the point if you are dealing with a machine like my old 166 Alfa where it is practically an engine out job to change the plugs but otherwise not for me.

Not sure why there would be a row, as there should'nt be regarding these type plugs. All that needs to be said, is, anyone who is contemplating trying an iridium spark plug(s) in their bike or vehicle, just do some research, read what the various manufacturers state, what testers have concluded, and what end users have to say. If you want to foot the bill for them, give them a try if you want, or don't. One can at least make an educated decision instead of just going by what someone feels or that has never used something and has some issue with something for some unknown reasons. Cheers

I sourced the Iridiums for my Mk1 Interceptor because the magneto sparked Interceptor has a (justified) reputation for poor starting. This is because the effective kickstart speed is low due to the primary gearing. It's at these low speeds that a mag struggles to create a big enough spark and the Iridiums make the difference. Mine are Denso, designed for this application but I think ND no longer make them. The supplier's opinion was that if I needed to replace with resistor type Iridiums I'd still see an advantage. On other bikes like Bullets with a mag the kickstart speed problem is not so acute. It works for me, pay your money and make your choices. Now I said all this in my original post but it's amazing how many people simply don't read what's written! REgards, Mark

FOR SIMON AND JOHN M :- If you have both run NGK B6ES in your magneto 350 Bullets, how did you manage to fit them - as they are a long reach plugs and all my 350 heads (indian and reddich) are short reach. Wouldn't this be B6HS? I'm confused. Anyone need a B6ES plug , -I have one spare :(

Well spotted Zippy, I did mean B6HS (short reach). In short I've always used the standard plug and never given it any thought. Just out of interest you can get a long reach plug to fit a 350, the fella that sold me my Indian Bullet managed! I only noticed when the piston closed the gap and cut it out!!!
