Those should be easy enough to find, though you will need to spend time on Ebay as neither are being made new and you will need to find second hand examples and refurbish. Other parts should be pretty straightforward from our Hosts. Let us know how you get on?

CANUCK, it looks like a terrible repair to the braised join at he headstock. Time for a replacement frame I'm afraid, I can't see that ever being repaired properly.

Hello guys,----------- given the age (thus scarcity) of the frame I'd hold back on scrapping it just yet... Can you find a professional welder/fabricator to assess the job ie}-removal of the patches, such that you can inspect the underlying area ??..
I seem to remember a section from the MoT manual saying that any frame repairs must be welded, NOT brazed... This might account for what you're seeing here...New patched made from 2mm or 3mm steel professionally applied would look much neater PLUS you'll then know just what actually IS under there !!---
The rest of the frame looks to be ok----assuming alignment is as well ??

Second Allan's comments, a good welder/fabricator will (probably) be able to fix that.

looking at this photo, it does appear the weld continues around the back of the down tube, which could confirm the possible fracture repair. http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y42 ... 370bac.jpg

I have oxy/actl, arc,tig and mig.
The yoke would be cast iron? Could remove brazed tube? Could put a sleeve inside/outside?

Also the aluminum engine cases are corroded (white crust), is there a better way to clean up and polish?

Anyone tried the molasses/water rust removal inside a gas tank?

Thanks again

There is a similar frame on this site with an asking price of £80, if you can get an acceptable repair to yours for less than this you will be doing well.

Thanks John, it is a good looking frame. Shipping costs would probably double the price. Is there any merit in maintaining matching frame /engine numbers?

Hi guys------------- Yes, that Hitchcocks frame does seem to be ok..Don't forget that in the UK there will be the VAT to add on to the price & posting (£96 inclusive for the frame alone).... I believe the yoke to be cast steel rather than iron----Phosphoric acid for cleaning Aluminium I think ?? ---- OR have you tried blasting with Baking Soda or Dry Ice ??

Canuck, it may be possible to repair the frame you have. I assume by your "handle" you are in Canada so UK taxes would not need to be paid but postage would be expensive so a local repair is favoured. A few words of warning: the original assembly method for brazed joints is to plug the tube into the casting and then pin it in place (with a tiny steel pin) before heating and introducing the jointing metal (braze). This pin must be removed to dismantle the join and it can be difficult to find and displace. However, this work is regularly done by specialists here in the UK (Percival Brothers and Webb for instance) so it can be done! REgards, Mark
