Another twopennyworth from me - to be at their best all drum brakes need all the shoe surfaces to be in full contact with the drum, and with new shoes this can take many, many miles to achieve. Alternatively (and more expensively) some brake specialists will machine oversize shoes to make a perfect fit to the drum. Not sure if Mr H allows such folk to be mentioned on this site, but a search on tinterweb should reveal all. Cheers. Tony.

Good People,
Most Grateful for a good and humorous response from all people.
I am waiting for a referbished carb to be returned to me before I can use the bike and check the brakes.
However I spent the best part of the evening in the garage putting all of your suggestions into practice.
managed to move the brake arm up one notch, this has improved the brake at the handle bar lever end so i hope should improve the braking?
only a road test will give any positive real results.
I will let you know how the refurbished carb works out and how the braking goes.
Once again many thanks for all of your suggestions and positive, humorous responses.
