Hi,
I haven't done a conversion but I've ridden a few.
I suggest you ride one first to know what you are getting. It's not just a difference in maximum power.

cheers

Code: Select all
Which leads on to the obvious question, is there a diesel conversion in South Wales that I could have a look at, and maybe a ride?

Cheers

hi wise owl ,wise words from paul ,diesel enfields are not for the masses ,if you like to ride a bike flat out all day this is for you ,i,ve screwed the nuts off mine for 5000 miles and still returned 160 to the gallon ridden at a steadier pace my colleague kevin who has the same style conversion as mine gets around 180 /200 mpg,the conversion is straight forward i used salad oils spacer with a 70mm id !!the engine is not quite central although this is not noticed when riding,i used all the standard primary i found no need to use a lengthened gearbox shaft although thats up to you ,henry price sells converted bikes for 4k he also sells all the conversion parts ,i must say i made everything except the fan cover and the taperlock sprocket /engine, my bike runs a straight through plant style exhaust which terminates under the engine very industrial, anyway this diesel thing is quite an exclusive club so come and join us if you can cut the cloth!! atb paul.

just thought of a little more in fo if converting a 350 bullet as i did you go up a road tax bracket ,when youve done your conversion get it inspected at your local mot centre, get them to verify the changes on letterheaded paper the dvla have a thing about engine numbers, insurance wise its classed as a modified bike it costs me 135 quid fully comp ,on the log book it says heavy oil under fuel ,model bullet 350 ,cc406 so there you go a complete minefield have fun ,atb paul.
