Hi Gerry M, If you are doing the left to right conversion with the kit, I recently did this on the 5 speed gearbox without removing engine/gearbox including the cam plate change. Just remove clutch and when you get into the gearbox don't even remove the carrier plate, the whole gear cluster pulls out attached to the carrier but be careful as the gears can slide off the main and layshafts as you do so but provided you know the order to replace that's not a problem. It's a bit fiddly replacing the cam plate if you also change that but it would be just the same with the gearbox on the bench. I would say I have the benefit of a bike lift which makes it easier to work on a gearbox in situ, being the right height I can sit on a stool and work with no backache!
