Are you absolutely sure you have made the primary adjustment correctly ?
Your third post mentions "wind the adjuster in to gain some slack" - this would of course REMOVE slack in the cable........ Have you checked that the cable nipple and lever at the gearbox end is not fouling the gearbox outer cover? The cable you have (assuming it's routed correctly and that it is correct to part no.) SHOULD work with your existing levers; adding adjusters to these will just make your problem worse.
Another possibility is that you have a problem with the length of the pushrod(s).....
