PWK-clone 26 or 28mm?
In Germany 'all of them' have swapped to these carbs..
I swapped the amal for a 28mm PWK clone and it does everything much better.

If any carb 'does everything much better' than another carb that runs 'perfectly' with 10,000's of engines then the conclusion to be drawn must be that the 'other' carb was faulty or wrongly set-up.

Does that make sense? It does to me.

Yup, I'm no fan of amal..
I had one on a BSA m21.. mounted a 26mm Jikov (yes, a 2 stroke carb) and this was also a BIG improvement..

That's a fair comment Jawa-Enfield.
I'm also no 'fan' of AMAL - all I keep trying to say is that to write them off is, in my opinion, a bit daft for a carburettor that has given decades of completely acceptable service to umpteen thousand owners - some with very demanding motors.

I'm not saying other makes are no good - they may be perfectly fine.
But so too are AMAL carbs - as innumerable owners have found.

That's all I keep trying to get across!
To 'rubbish' them seems to me like nonsense.

If a carburettor provides good starting, good overall performance coupled with fuel economy and reliability, I can only wonder what else some expect from it.

That was really what I meant in my post. My point being that it would seem strange to call a carburettor “rubbish” because it didn’t provide an upgrade over another perfectly adequate one.

I suspect some problems are caused by a lack of owner understanding, a lack of proper maintenance OR by running without an effective air filter.
