if its for occasional off road/trials riding these proposed types of rear shocks are useable.

if you want more correct off road/trials suspension, you can go to:

https://www.rockshocks.co.uk

or

http://www.falconshockabsorbers.co.uk

they are quite a bit more expensive, but the built quality is not comparable.
they offer both lightweight completely rebuildable shocks.

the first offers non gas charged shocks.(rebuildable yourself!)
the latter offers gas charged shock.(you'll need to get them charged somewhere with to correct amount/type of gas!)

be aware they both will built the shocks to your specific us!:
weight of the bike, rider with full gear weight, terrain, ..........

rock shocks also offers front springs for the same use, as the standard spring are inadequate for of road/trials use.
in the front you will also need to vary the grade of the oil in combination with the these springs.

Thanks for the advice - I was going to address the front at the same time. I saw mr Waller was a fan of rock shocks too :)

Have you got experience of using either of these brands? If so what length of shock did you buy?

NJB shocks are very good and not expensive, these can also be tailor made for not much more expense if required. Just remember, if you go for longer shocks with more travel you WILL run into chain tension issues and may need to consider fitting a spring loaded chain tensioner to address this.

I would ask Hagon tell them what you want they will make it and they will look right
Well worth the cost of a phone call

I've used Hagons a couple of times before on road bikes. I've always found them to be over sprung and had to swap for a lower spring rate despite giving them all the details. Maybe if they know it's for off-road they would use a softer spring? As you say they are easy to communicate with.

I'm just trying to get a feel for what people have used before (successfully or otherwise).

Has anyone used Hagon's off road?

For your further amusement - this is not "off-road" where I live. These are both "unclassified roads"

Good call on NJB - hand-built trials shocks under £100? Outstanding value if they are as good as they claim. I’ve written to ask for their recommendations.

Slightly off topic, I saw this picture on the Rock Shocks site, what price a Metisse JAP street scrambler, I wonder?
