Was a regular on this forum a few years back whe I owned a 2005 bullet 350.Taking delivery of a classic 500 on a 2019 plate soon.First thing I want to do is change the standard exhaust.Any suggestions for one that will give a nice rumbling sound.

The 2019 UCE is fitted with a electronic fuel injection and a sophisticated engine control unit that is programmed with all the factory parts in mind that are fitted. Especially modifications of the air filter and exhaust system will need a different mapping of the engine control unit (ECU). When changing the exhaust system you may expect less power, overheating or popping in the silencer due to a lean mixture. When changing any parts concerning the intake or outtake of the EFI engine you should install a power manager with the correct mapping as offered by our host. Not a cheap, but a good investment for a trouble-free running modified UCE.
By the way - I do not see any problems with the sound of the factory silencer. When riding my bike I do not depend on a specific sound, and not all passers-by like loud motorbikes. Just now, European politics are discussing more strict regulations concerning the sound emissions of motorbikes. In addition, they only do it for the reason that some (but far not all) motorbikes are too noisy, especially if there are modifications on the exhaust system.
Louder noise from exhaust systems will lead to regulations that are more stringent. And such regulations affect all of us, although only a few of us contribute to such regulations by their behavior.

Harald, such noise regulations already exist in UK, although they were relaxed slightly a few years ago, when suddenly any aftermarket exhaust had to have identifying marks to prove it met the standard of a new bike. A motorcycle is now not allowed to make more noise than one with a "standard" exhaust. Enforcement is another matter. Thankfully....

I think my 350 has gained 15 mph by fitting a less restrictive silencer.

Nice to hear about your 350's improved maximal speed, but we are talking about the Classic 500 UCE EFI. Changing or altering the exhaust system will unfortunately degrade the engine's characteristics, if you do not adapt the ECU or it's mapping.
Yes, I know about the UK regulations, but just now there are new regulations discussed in Brussels. Be happy, if you like, that such probably new regulations for EU countries will not affect the UK in future.

I have some problems understanding why Jamesy intents to change the standard exhaust. It will not improve the bike's characteristics ( power, speed, torque) in a positive way.
And why do some people think they need a specific sound to be happy? That is a big miracle.

After-market exhausts, including some quite loud ones, are also a significant part of Hitchcocks' revenue stream, I suspect.

The emissions and noise regulations are constantly being ratcheted down so that manufactures have to jump through an ever increasing number of hoops to keep anything on the market, which has actually killed the production of the 500 Bullet in India as RE have decided that it is no longer financially viable to try and keep up with this nonsense. The 350 staggers own but won't be exported, at least not in our direction.

Making factories conform to tighter and tighter noise levels for new bikes is illogical if the problem is due to careless fitment of overly-loud aftermarket systems by the people who actually buy the bikes. Better enforcement of existing construction AND USE regulations might be a better course of action.

Thanks for the info. Although I have mentioned a nice rumble sound my main reason is purely cosmetic. I think the bike looks better with a shorter length exhaust. I don't like loud pipes and wouldnt like to upset my elderly neighbours.

Indeed they do,they supplied and it mine went on and the bike runs great with or without a baffle... ask me how I know how it runs ok without a baffle !!

Guys the shorter exhaust I am looking for is here on the parts catalogue.It says if fitted the dynojet commander with appropriate map should be fitted.
