Brake plate interchangeability?#90143

I'm using a standard indian brake plate on my 2004 612 converted bullet but with one of the longer EFI brake arms for a bit more poke.

I'm getting quite a lot of flex on the pressed steel brake plate which is making the performance unpredicatable and causing angled wear on the pads.

Wondering about fitting an alloy plate off a reddich bullet? Anyone know if one would fit?

I forgot to say. Rear brake. Got a disc up front.

Sorry can't help on that one, I have the Indian 7" TLS fitted with Indian shoes and it's just about the only thing that I haven't thought about changing
No idea what year it's from with my bike's history it could be anything, hell it even had Suzuki shoes in the back when I got it!

Hi Stinkwheel, you would need to bore out the centre to accept the larger diameter hollow spindle section of the Indian RE wheel. You may also need to alter the spacing on the brake side and possibly the anchor point and the brake plate may need skimming narrower around the spindle hole, for things to line up and fit.

Sounds like a lot of work to wreck a vintage spare part.

I'll have a look at beefing-up the existing one next time I have it off. Or get a cheap Indian one to have a go at.

There's a clever chap in Germany who builds RE Bullet-based diesel bikes and somehow gets them through the Euro regs. He has also come up with some nice accessories , including an alloy replacement rear brake plate kit. Scroll down a bit here and you'll find it, 115 Euros.

Hi, the Redditch backplate is identical. Bear in mind this is the 6inch brake. However 250 models have an aluminium plate which may be adapted. Vince

Vince, if you check the link to the brake plate in stinkwheel's original post, he was asking about the alloy type brake plate, which is not the same as the pressed steel item found on earlier British Bullets and Indian Bullets, although, as I said and you also say, the alloy type could be adapted to fit.
