Thanks for the comments I'll probably do nothing; it was just a thought.
Jamesy, I have to disagree with starting an engine for 5 minutes like that. About the worst thing you can do to a laid-up engine imho.

PeterF I will likely also take it a run occasionally through the winter.I have in the past practiced 5 minutes warm ups on a number of bikes just to get them turning over without any problems.

Brim it. Rust needs water AND oxygen to form. Even if the ethanol seperates, it will form a thin layer UNDER the petrol. Once the tiny amount of dissolved oxygen it contains has been exhaustsed, the corrosion will stop. No further oxygen will get through the petrol unless you start shaking things about.

If I'm laying a bike up, I brim the tank and add fuel stabiliser. I HAVE had stale fuel. It stinks and the bike wont run properly on it.

Here are some actual facts about fuel going stale and what happens chemically: https://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp-count ... -tanks.pdf

Depends where you live, if you are where ethanol free petrol is available just leave the tank as it is. Otherwise I would drain the tank.
