To me this suggests knackered rings / bore.

I bought my ild 612 back earlier this year - before parting with my cash the vendor started it and it seemed to run fine, and he insists that he would not have sold it to me if he thought there was any issue with the engine.

Anyway, I took it for a run today, only about 2 miles or so, when I got home, oil was peeing out of the rocker box gasket, also out of the tappet adjustment cover.

It was also blowing smoke from the exhaust when you blipped the throttle, and when I pulled the plug it was very near fouled.

Anyone any suggestions apart from knackered rings / bore and bearing in mind the vendors insists there was nothing wrong with it............

Both Adrian & Bryan make good points.

I have to admit to not checking the breather, don't think it has wet sumped as I did check the oil level which was OK, but then again it may have wet sumped and then been filled to the correct level leaving the sump full.

I'll be checking both of these in due course.

Thanks.

Is this the first run since you bought it? If it's been standing then wet sumping is a pretty good candidate. Try checking the oil level just after a run or checking what's in the sump after it's been stood. I'd be tempted to give it good long run and see what happens.

As above. Oil coming out round the tappet cover can be a symptom of a blocked crankcase breather. I've had that happen when the end of my duckbill breather got folded over.

Had a look tonight, I noticed that there was a kink in the pipe with the duck bill on the end, certainly would not have helped.

I have run it up a couple of times since buying it, but this was the first time I had riden it.

Probably wait until the weekend before I see if it is wet sumping.

Cheers.
