A comment on altering the slide cutaway by removing material from the slide.
The reason there is a limit on removing material from the base rim of the slide is that this will cause the throttle needle to sit lower in the needle jet, as well as reducing the size of the cutaway. This is not the case when increasing the cutaway, the cutaway therefore may be increased beyond two sizes if required.
A reduction in the cutaway results in higher air velocity and consequently more fuel being drawn into the engine, richening the mixture. However the reduction in the slide cutaway by removing material from the base rim of the slide will be virtually negated by the needle sitting lower in the needle jet and reducing fuel flow.
Moral: buy the correct slide.
