Hi,
On my 2006 Electra X I'd like to replace the stock headlight casquette assembly with a 'simpler' (more common) approach. I'd like to find out if either of these two approaches will be complete in terms of parts needed:

Simpler Approach-
o Purchase the Trials Fork Top Yoke (#92591)
o Use my own headlamp and nacelle/bucket and ears

More Complicated (and expensive)-
o Purchase the Tope Yoke, Single Speedo #92590
o Purchase the Headlight Brackets, Set (including fixings) #92593
o Purchase the Headlamp with switch & ammeter, 7" Glass, Pattern #LU/51829

Hi Matt,

Probably the simplest way equipment-wise is to fit the Café Racer alloy top yoke 92513 and simply transfer your Electra-X speedometer, ammeter and ignition switch into it, which will let you use a plain 7" Lucas-oid headlamp shell (get one which uses 5/16"/8mm mounting bolts), 7" chrome Lucas rim and 7" headlamp reflector unit of your choice.



For headlamp brackets definitely use the 50's style kit, the only thing is with the Café Racer yoke you will need to trim the top off the sleeve part of the brackets by about 3/8", though it will look fine with the chrome collars in place.



The end result looks like this:







The trials top yoke 92590 will look fine with the 50's bracket kit, no trimming needed in this case, but you will have to re-locate the ignition switch if you're using the LU/51829 headlamp. You can wire in the LU/51829's ammeter but the old style headlamp switch can remain as a pirce of period decoration.



The other option would be to use the AVL Thunderbird-type fork yokes and headlamp brackets, our hosts list a kit, part number 92605, but it's out of stock! You might be able to track the components down in India.

If I decide on the cafe racer yoke can I just go with my own generic ears/brackets (JP Cycles) and headlight and bucket/nacelle (Yamaha SR500)?

My own preference is for shroud-type headlamp brackets in keeping with a classic bike, generic brackets just don't seem to do the bike's looks justice.



Yet another option would be more street tracker, bare forks, our hosts's trials yoke and a bottom-mounted Bates 5.75" headlamp, no side brackets, like this one which came up on ebay UK a while back, anyone here recognise this bike?
