A belated update, the big end bearing is now well and truly repaired and the bike has returned to its natural habitat around Hodge Close and Little Langdale in the Lakes.

I need to change to a steel connecting rod on a Redditch made 500 Bullet,for road use, and was going to opt for a plain big end bearing, that was until reading Chris' comment that the Indian made bearing only does 20,000 miles.I am a bit concerned now.
Is that a common experience? Are better quality ones not available?
Any advice welcome please,
