Hi guys. I have taken the trouble to cut through my Accralite 8.5:1 535cc piston (at a right angle to the gudgeon pin) to see how thick it was.
The piston was ruined when the inlet valve attacked it and I am replacing it with another of the same, after resleeving the alloy barrel back to std spec. But I thought I’d see exactly how much aluminium there is in it. The image shows it to be quite thick – it can be read off from the adjacent millimetre scale.

Why, you may ask, do I want to know how thick the aluminium is?
Well since I am fitting the scrambles NOS valve from our hosts, which is a little larger than the indian OEM valve, I want to know how much could be ground off the inlet valve pocket should the valve clash with the head. I already have the larger exhaust valve and that misses the piston by a measured ~50thou (playdough in valve pocket). Maybe someone else will be interested in seeing the thickness.
Cheers, ChrisD
