Alan, the little SIEG has been useful working on bikes and cars for basic chores. I've perused those sites you cited, and found plenty of good info. Still I'm amazed by what's possible. We have a museum here you may have seen online: http://craftsmanshipmuseum.com/
Yes, I have the usual stucco and red-tile roof casa, and my buddy lives in a real mud-brick adobe down the road.

An update on my idle issue.
After trying various pilot jets and settings, I tried Paul Henshaw's rubber glove test on the carb with the throttle wide open and got that outward puff showing an inlet valve leak. Since I was planning to check the piston anyway so the upper end will get some attention soon. Off with it's head, indeed.
