Mustaphapint. Yes, a rear wheel driven cable has to contend with suspension movement as well BUT nothing like the bending of a front driven cable. The front wheel cable has to cope with much more arc of bend.

On further testing, the speedo does not flutter when the wheel is turned on the bench (managed to get up to 40mph driving the wheel with a drill)
when riding, it only flutters when the front suspension depresses.
I have checked the inner cable which seems perfect and turns freely (I already changed it to try to fix the problem)
I will try the rear wheel conversion over the winter and report back.
