Hi just purchased a 1953 350cc G2 everything ok but not charging battery , new battery on it but went for spinout approx 35 miles battery now registers 11.50 volts , when driving along with lights on ampmeter goes to discharge , new to royal enfields so any thoughts, regards

If it has not been used for some time the dynamo may need flashing.

just to break the ice as it were....My experiences are more with the 1970' / 80's machines but shouldn't your bike be a 6 volt model ??
As a start just check the voltage ratings on your bulbs....maybe a previous owner has changed it to 12 volts ??...My point being that if this is the case --- and the voltage regulator is still the old 6 volt model then that might be the answer ??
That's the trouble with old bikes, quite a few owners down the years with plenty of opportunity for so-called mods. and upgrades but the information never gets passed on...Not to worry as others on here have more detailed experience and will be of great help I'm sure------------Welcome to the world of Enfield ownership....A translation of its' Latin motto reads}----- "Requires a certain amount of Owner Input"....Enjoy !!

I wonder what might happen if a 12volt battery is fittedd to a 6volt dynamo & regulator, just a thought.

That's easy Bryan, it just won't charge and possibly the OPs problem, to convert a dynamo from 6 to 12v is easy just replace bulbs battery and cvc unit with 12v dynamo regulator, perhaps wrongly I assumed this had been done.but if someone has just put a 12v battery on ?.

Ingie, best advice is to get a Workshop Manual. It will explain how to identify and test the system. Apart from that, the others have given sound advice about what might have been done to convert your bike to 12v. REgards, Mark
