Yes John, I had awful problems some while back which turned out to becaused by a dodgy new condensor. That time the bike was unrideable. However, now everything is okay once warmed up enough for the cold start enrichment to be turned off. You've got me thinking though. Anyone know how to test a condenser with a multimeter?

I have whipped the carb of (did i mention it was a Mk1 concentric?) and it looks clean enough. I did have the flange nuts tightened quite gently and threadlocked as a precaution against distorting the flange, but I may have gone too far in that direction and left a leak - that could explain change in behaviour as various parts expand.
I have Boyer ignition, so that means no condenser (I think) and I am reasonably confident that the HT side is OK; Plug is new, coil and HT lead are pretty low mileage. just a case of checking earths and connections if the attention to the carb doesn't do it.

I suppose you would notice if you removed carb, but another cause of this is the need.e clip breaking or coming off would cause the needle to drop into the jet, cutting off fuel for anything past tickover.

Just wondering if there were any follow ups to this post. I'm having the same issue on an '04 Bullet 500 electric start.

The bike starts good but won't rev very well. I can ease on the throttle to get it to rev up a bit but it sputters and dies out pretty easily under throttle. I live in Wyoming, USA, about 6063 ft in elevation.

I've tried an assortment of main jets. I've cleaned the original carb several times and even put a new carb in it, adjusted needle clip to lean it up for higher elevation, changed spark plug, new points and condenser, changed air filter, checked crankcase vent canister (it had a bit of oil in it, is this normal?), messed with various settings with the idle and air mixture screws, cleaned fuel tank, replaced all fuel lines...

It seems to get better with the air mixture screw turned all the way in but still isn't right. If I back the air mixture screw out it gets noticeably worse.

It has new fuel in it. Very frustrating. I can putt around the block okay but the bike won't rev up very well. It seems to rev a bit better with the choke on. It idles great with the choke off. Starts great. Just can't twist the throttle or it dies out.

Any ideas???? Thanks all!! Cheers.
