My 1960 constellation obviously has a crankcase breather pipe coming off the primary drive casing .does anybody have any
bright ideas how I can make the residue from the pipe a bit less messy when it comes out the end. At present I have it leading to above the rear chain ,which lubes the chain but also sprays it all over the rear wheel and frame and eventually on the floor ,any good ideas would be gratefully received?...

You could use some sort of catch can to trap the oil and let the breather gases pass on, ideally with a drain for the oil to return to the tank.

It should be possible to come up with a more discreet version of this, which at least shows the principle, maybe something that can be tucked out of sight using the breather catch can off an Electra-X, for example.

I suggest the same as Adrian. I used a catch can on my Meteor which was a very heavy breather (some Twins are worse than others.) I simply mounted a plastic jar with a lid just above the toolbox. I led a rubber pipe from the breather up to the jar, the lid of the jar having holes to let air escape. I discovered that the vertical rise of the tube acted as a separator in itself and the pot almost never needed emptying. One thing worth trying to reduce the flow is to make sure you don't overfill the oil tank, the oil level should be about half way between H and L, filling it to the H level just leads to more oil out of the breathers.

or do what enfield and others did and run it along the rear guard and out the back

Thanks for the advise ,have made a breather box to fit below the primary cover
with a drain plug .Should work ok.

Thanks for the advise, I will keep an eye on it if so I will relocate to a higher level.

Lovely piece of engineering Adrian. Is that an ex-steam engine fitting and is the brass cylinder in the crankcase breather line a one way valve?
