I replaced the points on my 2003 electric start Bullet about 2 years ago and now I come to finally get it on the road I find it`s miss-firing badly. Can someone talk me through, or point me towards the relevant info for installing the standard MK4 kit. I need to go back to the beginning and start again.

As long as it's running and no matter how badly, you will always have the option of sticking a timing disc on the rotor and using a strobe light to obtain accurate ignition timing.

Yes it is starting but with lots of black smoke and miss-firing. I have a timing disc and pointer kit but can`t figure out how to use it.I can`t put marks on my stator as its got exposed coils. I`ve got a strobe too but not sure of the procedure.

I have no idea if this can help.. but it's what I did when I converted to electronic. It describes how I set it up.

The old adage comes to mind, "an electrical fault will be the carb and a carb fault will be the electrics". The black smoke indicates a far too rich a mixture, look to the carb for your fault.

Many thanks for this. I have reset the timing using the Boyer instructions and decided to clean out the Amal carb at the same time. Bloody gremlins made off with the banjo bolt for the fuel pipe-float bowl connection. Will have to wait until new bolt comes before I can try again.
