Hi All,

I'm setting up the ignition on a 1937 Model S (250 Single)

I've set the cam to open the points at 1/4" BTDC and set the points gap at 10 thou. but the points seem to spend more time open than closed.

If anybody knows what the ignition dwell should be I'd be most interested - can't find it in any of the manuals.

I'd go wider on the points, 12 to 14 thou. For pre-War bikes I seem to recall the rule of thumb for full advance is usually 3/8" BTDC.

Thanks Mark,

With regard to the timing, I've different information from each of the three official publications relating to my bike - 1/8", 1/4" & 3/8" with the ignition fully advanced ... I'll give them all a try and see which one works best :)

Seems fairly retarded for a small capacity old machine, is the compression high?. The Bullet is 7/16" to 1/2" btdc with 6.5:1 compression.
