Not being sure, I gave it 'a bit of a twist' and it seemed to work well, it is a piston and cylinder and the end is a screw cover that holds a metal plate, it works with the pressure of the piston, managing to squeeze the liquid past the end plate and it comes out under pressure and all creamy!.

My most favourite workshop manual phrase is "tap gently with a hide-faced mallet until it works free". I think we all know what that usually ends up meaning....

Screw it up tight until you can feel the threads starting to strip, then give it another full turn, then light a small fire under the bike and go down to the pub.
