Last update on this one: the new HT lead did improve things but still not completely right with occasional kick back and sneezing through the carb; had the carb off,replaced rubber connecting carb with inlet manifold and presto - good start and no need for knee replacement at this point in time - must have been an air leak after-all(as suggested by Gwilly) Thanks to all who commented. C.
